Mishnah 9 - Chapter 4 - Pirkei Avot

Rabbi yonatan omer. Kol hamkayem et hattorah me'oni, sofo lekayemah me'osher. Vechol hamvattel et hattorah me'osher, sofo levattelah me'oni.

Rabbi Jonathan said: whoever fulfills the Torah out of a state of poverty, his end will be to fulfill it out of a state of wealth; And whoever discards The torah out of a state of wealth, his end will be to discard it out of a state of poverty.

R. Yonathan says: Whoever fulfills the Torah in poverty, [being pressed for sustenance and yet forsaking his work in order to study Torah] is destined to fulfill it in wealth. And whoever forsakes the Torah out of [preoccupation with his] wealth is destined to forsake it out of poverty.
