רַבִּי יוֹסֵי (הַכֹּהֵן) אוֹמֵר, יְהִי מָמוֹן חֲבֵרָךְ חָבִיב עָלֶיךָ כְּשֶׁלָּךְ. וְהַתְקֵן עַצְמָךְ לִלְמוֹד תּוֹרָה, שֶׁאֵינָהּ יְרֻשָּׁה לָךְ. וְכָל מַעֲשֶׂיךָ יִהְיוּ לְשֵׁם שָׁמָיִם:

Rabbi yosei (hakkohen) omer, yehi mamon chaverach chaviv aleicha keshellach. Vehatken atzmach lilmod torah, she'einah yerushah lach. Vechol ma'aseicha yihyu leshem shamayim.

Rabbi Yose said:Let the property of your fellow be as precious unto you as your own; Make yourself fit to study torah for it will not be yours by inheritance; And let all your actions be for [the sake of] the name of heaven.

R. Yossi says: Let your friend's wealth be as dear to you as yours. And prepare yourself to study Torah. [Do not say: Since my father is a sage and my grandfather is a sage, "Torah returns to its inn" and I need not pursue it], for it is not an inheritance to you. And let all of your deeds be for the sake of Heaven. [Even when you engage in eating, drinking, and marital relations, do not be motivated by bodily pleasure, but by a desire to be healthy to do the will of your Master.]
