Rachel Imenu

Hilula on 11 Marcheshvan

Rachel our Matriarch, wife of Jacob and mother of Joseph and Benjamin, died giving birth to Benjamin on the road to Ephrath, near Bethlehem, where her tomb stands (Genesis 35:16-20).
The prophet Jeremiah describes her weeping for her children in exile, and G-d promises her that they will return (Jeremiah 31).

Bereshit 35:16-20
They traveled from Beit El, and there was still a stretch of land to go to Efrat, when Rachel gave birth, and her labor was hard.
When her labor was at its hardest, the midwife said to her: Do not be afraid, for this one too is a son for you.
As her soul was departing, for she was dying, she named him Ben Oni; but his father called him Binyamin.
Rachel died and was buried on the road to Efrat, which is Bethlehem.
Yaakov set up a monument on her grave; it is the monument of Rachel's grave to this day.

Jeremiah 31:14-16
Thus says Hashem: A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping: Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, for they are gone.
Thus says Hashem: Hold back your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for there is a reward for your deeds, says Hashem: they shall return from the land of the enemy.
There is hope for your future, says Hashem: your children shall return to their own border.
