רבי מאיר בעל הנס

Rabbi Meir Baal Haness

Hilula on 14 Iyar

A Tanna and a disciple of Rabbi Akiva, Rabbi Meir is one of the most quoted masters of the Mishnah. His tomb is in Tiberias. His hilula falls on Pesach Sheni.
The Talmud (Avodah Zarah 18a) relates that he saved a man by saying "Elaha DeMeir Aneni" (G-d of Meir, answer me). It is customary to say it while giving tzedakah for the elevation of his soul.

Elaha deMeir aneni

אֱלָהָא דְמֵאִיר עֲנֵנִי
אֱלָהָא דְמֵאִיר עֲנֵנִי
אֱלָהָא דְמֵאִיר עֲנֵנִי

"G-d of Meir, answer me!" It is said three times, while giving tzedakah for the elevation of the soul of Rabbi Meir Baal Haness (Talmud, Avodah Zarah 18a).
